This longhouse is as old as five generations. It is believed that our ancestors first settled at the foot of Mount Penrissen and later moved downward to four hill-tops. The choice of setting on higher ground was meant for security reason because in those days head hunting activity was widely practice in Sarawak.

Our guestroom is basic, just exactly like our own bedroom, if not better. We make every effort to make sure that they are always clean, cosy & comfortable place for you to overnight during your stay. We also ensure that everything are prepared & put in place before you come in for a rest or sleep. Our guestrooms come with mosquito netting, cooling fan(s), comfortable mattress, blanket, pillow, wardrobe & etc.

We are lucky enough to have a hot spring nearby at our longhouse. It is located in the middle of the jungle, & you can soak into it while enjoying the beauty of the jungle. You will need a short jungle trekking through a few gardens, farms, hills and also Bamboo Bridge to reach this natural spa.

Our guide will bring you to this wonderful place for you to enjoy the beauty of nature, just lie down & relax, swim, or you can even try a waterfall massage. The water is cold & crystal clear, & you will just love it.

Semengoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre

Semengoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre

Semengoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is half an hour drive from Kuching and was established in 1975 for the rehabilitation of confiscated and surrendered wild animals. It is located about 20 km south of Kuching and is situated within the beautiful Semengoh Nature Reserve. This is a temporary home for various endangered wildlife of Sarawak, especially Orang Utans that were rescued from captivity and hornbills. Semengoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre has received 915 animals up to 1999.

The journey to Annah Rais longhouse from Kuching will take approximately 1 and the half hour drive. Although the transfer duration is pretty long, you will be amazed by the scenic countryside view, beautiful mountain range, limestone hill, paddy field, palm oil plantation estate & etc. Feel free to contact the homestay operator, Mdm. Macheree/Mr. Ringin (mobile no.0168566128/0198175229) at least 2 days in advanced to arrange for your transfer.

Day Trip


Longhouse Transfer - We will pick you up from your hotel/guesthouse at 8:00am. Please get yourself ready by 7:45am & wait for us at the lobby, or right in front of your guesthouse. Transfer from Kuching to the Longhouse will take approximately 1 hour & 15 mins. The journey will pass through the beautiful limestone formation scenic view, as well as the countryside view, mountain range, palm oil estate, paddy field & etc. Enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.

Semengoh Wildlife Center - Get yourself and your stuffs ready before leaving to Semengoh Wildlife Center. Stop at this wildlife center to see Orang Utan during their feeding time. Take your time to walk around park to see other animals kept there.

Arrive at Annah Rais Longhouse - Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your host in the longhouse, with the local-brewed rice-wine (known as “Tuak”) as a welcome drink. Short briefing session about Annah Rais longhouse & its history will be conducted when you are sipping of our local rice wine.

Guided Longhouse Tour – Right after registration, our guide will bring you for a longhouse tour. During the tour, you will meet the village folks, visit the head house, mini museum and show house. Learn about our lifestyles, heritages and cultures this time as our guide will tells you a lot of stories about Annah Rais Longhouse. Take this chance to shoot pictures with villagers and get near to them.

Lunch - You will get this chance to know the family you will be staying with and they shall arrange all your activities during your stay with them.

Traditional cultural Dance - Soon after dinner, the local musician will start showing you with all their traditional musical instruments. A volunteer guest(s) will be dressed in traditional costumes and join the dancing while others will learn to make music. You will also be thought on performing the traditional cultural dance with the full traditional costume on if you wish. Some of the villagers, especially the kids here will sometimes come & join in for the fun & crazy moment.

Short jungle walk - You will be provided with ‘tamok’ (basket) to carry your stuffs in the tropical rainforest. You will experience to walk on a Bamboo Bridge. Also, visit Pepper Garden and see various flora & fauna and etc with local English speaking guide. Ask anything you see along the way from your local English speaking guide.

Visiting hot spring – Just right on the other bank of the river, you will find the hotspring where you can see bubbles coming up from the floor inside a man made pool and the temperature is just nice for you to soak yourself. You may want soak yourself in crystal clear walk. Enjoy soaking yourself in it.

Return back Kuching - Get yourself clean after soaking in the river. If you feel, you can get some food at the canteen just right in front the junction to the hot spring. We hope to see you again.
